Question For The Religious Fundementalists
131 Answers
Would you still love God if you knew he was going to damn you to eternal torment? After all you assert that we are all born sinners and worthy of hell because God is 'righteous' and that's what we deserve.
Seems to me that the religious, for all their talk of loving God, are only loving God because they are afraid of NOT doing so.
Not been flippant here, I'm genuinely interested in why you would want to worship an entity that would torture you for an eternity if you DIDNT love him.
Thanks :-)

Suppose you ruled in a country where you are surrounded by nations who are cruel, (very much like ISIS, only worse). They continue to invade your territory, take away your wives, children, menfolk and
killed all your livestock. What action would you take?
What would you do if your wife/daughter deliberately disobeyed something you asked them to do, causing the rest if the family to be punished when they were not responsible? How would you feel knowing that you asked them something that was not unreasonable or difficult to do, but would result in a happy family - but they decided they knew best!
God may have punished people, but don't the judicial systems of today do just the same?
If there was no deterrent for wrong doing what would the world be like now? Similar in ancient times. Anarchy.
As for adulterous husbands - read Malachi.

Joshua's hoard was instructed by God to invade the lands across the Jordan river and slaughtering everyone. Could you please advise of any verse that states that they had been previously attacked by the Cannanites (those who occupied the those lands).
Here is the only reason I have been able to find for the attack.
Deuteronomy 20:18 Kill them, so that they will not make you sin against the Lord by teaching you to do all the disgusting things that they do in the worship of their gods.
It standard practice to first vilify those whose lands you wish to invade and whose wealth you want to steal. Then upscale to "they are a threat to us" and finally to "We must kill them". All this justified by the righteousness of the religious belief.
The Israelite men were given no choice by their commanders.
Joshua 1:18 Any man who rebels against what you say and does not obey all your commands will be executed.
Joshua would be tried and convicted as a war criminal today.

I have nothing against deterrents being leveraged on perpetrators. However, modern judicial systems don't punish children for acts committed by their great great grandparents.

You have bared naked your prejudices in that passage. You demonstrate exactly what I meant when I told you that simply repeating your doctrine does not amount to justification nor even explanation.
//Deliberately disobeyed// presumes the man is the is the ultimate power and we already know that you have no objective evidence as to why that doctrine should prevail.
The concept that families are best managed through male authority dishing out punishment is archaic. Millions have been seriously damaged by being beaten into submission as children or wives.
//...causing the rest if the family to be punished when they were not responsible?//
Yes, I was making the point earlier. The family would be rightly annoyed that they were being punished for something they were not responsible for. Children who weren't even born when the sins against God were committed by their great grandparents would no doubt agree.
Biblical morality is nothing more that the codified prejudices of ignorant arrogant Neolithic misogynists.

I had a look. I guess you mean this?
Malachi 2:16
"I hate divorce," says the LORD God of Israel, "and I hate it when people clothe themselves with injustice," says the LORD Almighty. So be on your guard, and do not be unfaithful.
It lacked depth for me.
This was my favourite verse:
Malachi 4:1
"Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and the day that is coming will set them on fire," says the LORD Almighty. "Not a root or a branch will be left to them."
A bit of flagrant genocide down at the neighbour place! But watch out, God will burn you too if you don't think and behave exactly the way he wants.

Beso@ Don't worry about me! My perception of God is so very different from yours. I have absolutely no fear of the future regardless of world events. The Book of Revelation foretells what is happening today. Along with the prophecies in Daniel, Isaiah, and the four gospels you are having a part in that fulfilment whether you like it or not. The time is fast approaching and it will not be late as per Habakukk and Zephaniah. The Psalmist says, "The fool says in his heart - there is no God!". Who is the fool? I leave that for you to work out!
As I prophesied, you have simply gone back to repeating your mantra and failed to engage in debate.
You won't engage in debate because you have nothing of substance to back your position, only your faith that you will be granted a deathless death if you devote your life to recruiting more members to the cult.

beso@I am always open to a discussion. But sometimes time prevents me from following through. As in this particular instance. I was in the preparation of a move, not just down the road, but to another country which involved a lot of legalities and preparation.
However I am now settled and eager to continue.

Beso@ your last comment was with regard to adulterous husbands.
Remember King David committed adultery with Bathsheba. He was punished. There are also other bible characters. Paul mentions of an adulterous relationship in Corinthians. Even King Solomon was punished for his taking many foreign wives.
However, when reading the Bible, the term adulterous appears many times but not necessarily referring to husband and wife. It is a prophetic term with regard to false religion.
