My best friend is a puppy trainer for Guide Dogs, it is her job to get them familiar with crowds, public transport and the like. I actually asked her this question, and yes they are trained to poop on command, if they cannot master this they will not go on to full guide dog training. If my friend is very lucky she gets to keep the pup (although she has never had this...
The guide dogs for the blind is one charity I gladly donate to,we were at the Highland games at outside of Edinburgh, there was a guide dog for the blind stall I went over ,a yellow Labrador like my jordy,
Who’s a good dog then you are lovely,
A voice from the lady says I am here to,
Never felt so stupid in my life.
woofgang, she has had a few failures, but more often for medical reasons than behavioral. She had a Labradoodle? way before they were really known about, as they were specifically bred for blind/partially sighted people with allergies. They are no longer used by Guide Dogs as a lot of problems now exist with them due to less than stringent breeding practices. She currently has a yellow lab, plus three Italian Spinones of her own.
Woofgang and danny, I think my posts make it very clear that guide dogs are trained to poop on command and it is rare for them to do their business on public highways.
I would think if you feed a dog at a certain time every day, then one will know in time when the dog needs to go, reducing the risk of it doing it on duty.
PD, the lady I knew had a failed guide dog and yes it was because she had shoulder problems and couldn't do the leg work involved in being a guide dog. I think the other thing with labradoodles is that they don't breed true and are not guaranteed to be hypoallergenic as every person and dog differs. The bloke who kicked it all off now realises this and regrets what he did. https://learningenglish.voanews.com/a/labradoodle-inventor-now-regrets-creating-a-monster-/5104037.html
Surely they just feel around, should be easy to realise you've found the squelch and shove it into the bag ? (PS never shake hands with a blind person ;-) )
