at the risk of being whinged at for "spoiling" (notwithstanding this was first shown 6 years ago) -
the key is the "burglary" at the estate years before. the "burglar" was Larry Crowe's son, and the sister's lover. she was with child, who was subsequently raised as her brother. sister's husband believed she was having an affair and tracked down and killed the "lover". unwittingly he'd killed his wife's son.
