Bought A Tumble Dryer Today And Found It Has A Eu Plug

my tumble dryer broke down yesterday and needed a new one quickly. I bought a Bush tumble dryer from Argos today using click and collect, read the reviews which were all good. Unpacked it and discovered it had a EU 2 pin plug so had to go to currys and buy a 2 pin plug adaptor so i could use it.
Had a look on google and found an article which was several years old that said it is illegal to sell one with the 2 pin plug in the UK.
Does anyone know if it is true and surely it should have come with the adaptor and it is not mentioned in the description about it having a 2 pin plug.

Not sure about the legality but I would contact the store as soon as you can for an explanation.

I know it's a faff but I'd be straight on to Argos for a replacement machine. You don't want to have to always be using an adapter anyway.

and, apart from the legality, are you sure the adaptor can handle the power required ? I certainly wouldn't use an adaptor on a large appliance.

Section 8 of the Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994 requires that electrical appliances must be fitted with plugs that conform to British Standard 1363. (i.e. they must be conventional '3-pin square' plugs, with fuses fitted). The sale of electrical items that are fitted with any other type of plug (other than certain exempted products, such as electric shavers) is illegal.

I most certainly wouldn't use an adapter with any device which draws a high current, as a tumble dryer does; the risk of overheating, and of a subsequent fire, is far too great. I'd either return the product to the retailer for a full refund or simply cut off the existing plug and replace it with a proper 13-amp British one.

I'm at work so couldn't take the dryer back today, so tried to phone the store so they didn't sell anymore but couldn't speak to the store due to coronavirus so went on live help all they said was to take it back to the store they didn't ask what model or show any interest. I said so you don't care about selling illegal items and fire hazards she said the store will sort that out. I cannot believe they didn't ask for the product number to check others they have in stock and remove the dryer from there catalogue. I am disgusted with the attitude and lack of interest of something that could be very dangerous. Will take it back on my next day off.
