motorbike lanes

I am often made to swerve to avoid motorbikes which come zig-zagging down between 2 lanes of moving traffic, thus creating a third lane. Can they legally do this or are they breaking a law?

Up until very recently if an accident happened When a motorcyclist was "filtering" the motorcyclist was always to blame.

Because of a recent court case where a car driver was prosecuted, fined and ordered to pay damages for knocking a motorcycle over whilst the motorcyclist was "filtering" this is no longer applies!

After driving for over 47 years, a lot of it in and around London I have never "been made to swerve" in the circumstances described in the Question, bit of sour grapes me thinks!

What's this I've read about "Filtering" being legal for motorcyclists?
What makes them so special?
Can I, when driving a motorcar, filter down the centre of two lanes on a wide dual-carriageway?!!

I would add to my earlier remarks and say that motor-cyclists are less of a problem to me than the pedal powered people who ride in the middle of roadways, sometimes two abreast, and overtake on the inside at traffic lights etc.
