Diversity Spoils Everything
110 Answers
As a latecomer to watching and enjoying cycling on the TV I was shocked today to hear calls for more diversity in cycling.
Eh? What?
I thought the fastest riders got into the team?
Why spoil a great sport with political correctness?
Then watching Countryfile, and now the National Trust is turning itself inside out because of some kind of white guilt.
Why oh why do these Social Justice Warriors have to spoil everything?

Why can't we all make less noise and become colour blind well, why don't you?

Somebody went on a course?
Yes, I saw a TV programme where young primary school kids were exposed to the real or imagined reality of subconscious racism. What a cheek! Schools should not have the right to expose our kids to the pseudo science of amateur psychologists, imparting manufactured guilt on to the fertile minds of children.
But more generally, affirmative action in any field is racist, whether sport, education or employment.
Over the last few hundred years we have progressed from status to contract, bit affirmative action seeks to reinstate status as the deciding factor in selection.
My answer is contract, and judgements made on the basis of character, educational qualifications, skills, suitability for the position in question.
And on the question of race, how do you decide who is black?
Black parents? Grandparents? Light brown skin and wavy hair, or dark black skin and tight curly hair?
This sounds like 1930's Germany, South African apartheid or Jim Crow.
On the question of cycling specifically, a bike is within the reach of everybody's budget, and a determined cyclist will join a club, and be recognised if he/she has potential ath!Eric ability.
As I said earlier, calls from the Wokes spoil everything.
This is true of all targets, in any field.
If I go into hospital, I want to be treated by the best doctors regardless of their skin colour, not a doctor who got let into medical school, for which he/she was not qualified, because of their race.
