Talking about childhood TV in the pub yesterday, I claimed the politically correct brigade barred Timmy Mallett from hitting children. I reckon in the later series, the kids sat by a machine which he hit instead. Nobody else remembered that - did I imagine it?
I'm not speaking to you cOOky83. Guess which song's going around my head???

Yep thats exactly right lol!i used to enjoy watching it so much when i was a kid and they used to hit them on the head with the mallet and then they sat by this seesaw type thing that he hit instead of hitting them! crazy isnt it?! they ruin everything these days!
My children, who were very very young (almost too young to understand tv) used to laugh their heads off at Timmy doing his whackaday stuff. I'd just sit on the sofa laughing at them laughing. I'm now thinking of a nice song to sing all day - one that I like and don't mind being stuck in my head!
Well, walloping kids over the head isn't exactly the safest thing to do, is it? Even with a foam mallet. Amazing he got away with it for so long, really.
No i don't think it's your imagination - i think towards the end of the shows run there was a giant clicker counter for each kid for him to hit instead of the kids heads. Makes me laugh really when in days gone by kids could be whacked with rods of wood but now we are too afraid to bounce a bit of foam on thier heads - mabe we've gone too far in the cautious direction?
Yep, he used to hit a machine instead of them (Not nearly as entertaining). The machine also used to have gremlins in it.
Where would you like your plaster? Wave it to the camera.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUfv-tAfXn4 gives you a look at a traditional game of Mallet's mallet, whoever the kids are quite lame. Maybe your memory makes thing seem better than they once were???
