So when we go into lockdown the cases gradually come down. But as soon as we go back to “normal” surely the cases will rise again due to so many Covidiots... people swanning off abroad, not wearing masks, etc. Or am I wrong? I just can’t see us ever being clear of this. Not everyone will be vaccinated. It’s not 100% anyway, and people coming from abroad etc. Sorry to appear so negative.

Saw a programme on TV which said as we denude the forests the animals there are forced to live in ever closer proximity to humans and our domestic animals and bring in their exotic viruses to increase our risks.

doubt it Sqad. I was already committed to the man I married and he to me.
Theland its a theory, not a proven fact. I do agree though that the global year round appetite for things like avocados and other tropical produce carries its own risks.
The only thing that's a certainty is that we've been cowed into submission and will be again when the fancy takes 'them'.

Whilst it is true that we get our diseases from other animals, it has very little do do with deforestation.
We deliberately domesticated animals thousands of years ago so we didn’t have to go out and do hard work hunting them. So as we lived with pigs, and birds and cattle, so we got their diseases. In the west we have largely industrialised farming, so we no longer dwell in the same rooms as our animals. But places like China and the far east still have peasant farmers who still do.
It is no coincidence that covid and swine flu originate there.
Covid came from bats that live in caves, not palm trees.
Chomping down trees does a lot of harm, but it is not creating more risk of pandemics.
