I think they should have done it - seeing gay people in priests outfits - so what?? Come on, those of us who have had diversity training would laugh and celebrate this kind of humour and free speech. I think it shows some biggotted attitudes. Bringing the Bishop in, with his partticular agenda, just confused the matter more.

The Bishop should go on diversity training!!!
These guys were instructed to "actively participate" in the Gay Carnival and this is what they objected to.
If they had simply been asked [or ordered if you like] to go along and hand out leaflets there would have been no problem.
A storm in a teacup all about political correctness and something that should have been sorted out in five minutes, but as usual there has to be a hysterical over-reaction by the powers-that-be.
Put the fireman to good use. Dont let them stand there like lemons handing out leaflets and the passers bye saying can I see your hammer or show us your hose.
Let them check other things. This has cost alot let the high management to hand out smoke alarms.

I don't think it should be classed as just a bit of fun to be sexually taunted, women in the work place have taken men to court for less than this, Regarding the religious implications, why should the more religious minded fire-fighters put up with mockery to their faith also? Imagine if this had been simular mockery towards the Moslem religion. I'm just about fed up with the fact that the majorities are expected to accept most things as just a bit of fun and not to take offence, while we have to tread on egg shells in case we offend various minority groups.
i believe that the firemen usually support any parades/marches as a matter of course but on this occassion it was rumoured that there were to be points awarded for any gay men managing to kiss a fireman. Then they were told to join in at the back of the parade. i also heard that several of the firemen haven't been near a church in years and are now claiming that this is against their religious beliefs. i think it was a bit of fun that was blown up out of all proportion.
