I have approx 20ft of a very shallow and narrow (8in) flower bed which runs along the side of the house/garage. I am looking for ideas of what to plant in it for a bit of colour. Bulbs don't do too well because I can't bury them deep enough. I was thinking of maybe using alpines - would that work? Although a bit of height would be nice against the white wall behind.
Thanks.

There are colourful annuals which work well at the foot of walls with poor soil. California poppies are lovely and self-seed.

Thanks for both those suggestions.
Double non-stop begonias keep flowering until the first winter frost!- AND you can retain the tubers for next season!
