Log awaited polling day here in Scotland. Will have to wait until Sunday for the result though. 16 year old grand-daughter has her first vote, hope she uses it well.

We are constantly told that young people are not mature enough to be treated as adults in many respects. There is a separate judicial regime which provides much more lenient sentences because people under 18 "do not have the capacity to make rational decisions about their behaviour". They must also remain in either full time education or work within an apprenticeship or similar scheme until they are 18. But it seems they are worldly-wise enough to cast a vote on the future direction of the United Kingdom.
You suggested raising the voting age to 21. I said an 18 year old could be sent to a theatre of war at 18, so why could he/she not vote at that age? You replied that the best way not to be sent out to die, was not to join the forces, which, imho, is a crass remark given the numbers of those who have done just that for their country. I do not believe i have been 'caught out' and i stand by my opinion that your remark was crass.
