Many already know to get more quotes when your car insurance comes up for renewal, but you really must do it this year. A few weeks ago I caught a clip of Martin Lewis saying that car insurance companies this year were going to take a hit, and premiums were on there way down, so get more quotes. I thought yes I've heard it all before, I don't normally take much notice of his prolonged gabble, ( that's even if you can keep up with him.

Anyhow my quote for this year came last week, from LV who I've been with now for three years. On average its increased by about £20 each year, when I've compared with others its not been worth changing, this year very different.

My quote for my car this year is £218, exactly the same as last year, that I thought strange, then suddenly remembered what ML had been saying, so went into go compare, the lowest quote is from a company called Dialdirect at £151.00, and with more cover, and believe it or not , I couldn't, includes RAC cover, the latter not much use to me as I already have it in progress. Because I looked into this quote I had a email from dialdirect this morning, and guess who the company belongs to? LV, even if I went with one of the other many quotes that I've had, on average I would pay at least £45 less than the £218 quoted. Hope this helps some, or reminds others its more than worth checking this year.

There is competition in the recovery market too. I think Green Flag do better than AA/RAC. If you just want the basic "fix me or get me to a garage" mine costs £25 pa -

CBC Breakdown Cover (Emergency Assist Ltd)
I've got absolutely nothing against price comparison websites (or Martin Lewis's site) but anyone who insures their car through a broker, rather than directly with an insurance company, might already be getting the best price anyway.

For example, a few years ago Post Office Insurance (which is a broker, not an insurer) gave me their best quote when my car insurance was due for renewal. I decided to follow Martin Lewis's advice and check all of the various price comparison sites, as well as firms which aren't on them (such as DirectLine). After spending the better part of two whole days on the task, I still couldn't get a lower quote than the one that Post Office Insurance had given me in the first place.

When my car insurance was due for renewal this year, the quote offered to me by Post Office Insurance was a bit lower than what I'd been paying last year, so I simply went along with their offer.
It's a minefield - insured last year with the AA (a broker). The renewal was too much. I got £100 less with Hastings Direct (broker/insurer -who knows?). I will still compare every year.
I telephone five or more companies for quotes before automatically renewing the insurance.
My renewal quote was up on last year, so went on a comparison site and they same company was offering new customers the same cover at a 120 cheaper phones them up and they matched it. Sorted
