Martin - //I wonder what a black copper killing a white man would have got?// He would've got less people defending him on AB.

naomi - // You did? Okay. //
Is this just an annoying quirk for today, or is it going to be a habit?
Popping up with pointless confirmations of what I have said, which is there for anyone to read if they wish, and ignore if they don't.
Your asides are irritating, and clutter up the thread.
I have no idea why you are doing it - maybe time to stop before it leads into a derailing exchange which helps no-one.

Martin - // I wonder what a black copper killing a white man would have got? For balance that is. //
That's an unanswerable hypotehtical, since all cases are unique and individual and sentences depend on the cirumstances in each crime.
// Personally I believe it was racially motivated death.
Fair enough.

naomi - // AH, you addressed me and I answered you politely saying all I had to say to you on the subject. //
When you have answered me, I have never felt the need to add a pointless post, such as 'I know.' or 'You said'.
In fact, no-one else does it, ever, except you, and only to me.
From now on, I'll take all your I Know's and You said's as read, which will save you the tiresome task of posting them and cluttering up the thread.
It will also save everyone else except me from skipping over them, and ignoring them for the pointless inserts that they are.
How does that sound?

I said it was tragedy because it was a tragedy for:
The man who died
The copper whose life has been ruined
Both their families
The wider community which saw arson, looting and further deaths.
Did those extra deaths result in million dollar payouts? No? - I didn't think so, neither should George Floyds have.

I can only speak personally, but my defence of George Floyd had nothing whatsoever to do with the colour of his skin, or that of the office involved, and everything to do with the unjust and illegal way he died.
Had the office been black and the victim white, my view would have been indentical.

Thanks for clarifying.
In an ideal world, anyone affected would have been compensated appropriately, but then again, in an ideal world, George Floyd would not have died the way he did.
The payout to his family was simply the result of individual circumstances - its rights and wrongs are a matter of debate, but the city opted to pay out to avoid a far larger pay out.
The guilt is on the part of the city for employing racist thugs - you can hardly blame the family if they saw and took an opportunity to redress some of that injustice financially.
Would you not have done the same in their position?

As would my have been Andy, but I don't think that's a universal opinion amongst the good denizens of AnswerBank.
