Because, I guess, the NHS is the closest cause to everyone's heart. Were I organising the advertising, I'd have suggested the same. It's something everyone relates to.

Not to mine it isn't. It is simply a pit with a monster in the bottom which can devour any amount of cash poured in. As per the best answer, throwing £350m a week at it will simply enable (among other things) GPs to have an extra day off, cutting the average number of days worked by them from the current three to two. The GP service is the biggest waste of taxpayers' cash I can imagine (and there are lots to choose from).

I remember when Gordon Brown gave a Huge cash injection to the NHS saying at the time how the public would not be opposed to this, in fact would welcome this one-off substantial & necessary payment.

What happened ? ... the docs swiped the lot!
