“would be satisfied if things returned to the situation as it existed before Putin's appalling ill-conceived intervention”

Which began in 2014 forget.
“Don’t” forget
The (effective) annexation of parts of Donbas was a manufactured conflict engineered entirely by Putin in 2014 and what is happening now is merely the next stage.
He uses this as an excuse to interfere in Ukraine and has now alienated previously sympathetic residents as I alluded to earlier
Double crise missile attack in Kyiv this evening during Gutierrez “war is evil”’s visit.

Meanwhile Transnistria bans all men of fighting age from leaving its territory

Another excellent post at 17:12 yesterday sandra.
Thank you Shirley.I only wish I was wrong. Some poster on here said they didn't realise I had experience of war issues, well the way our government are conducting themselves at the moment it appears their experience is very thin on the ground.

When one looks at the shambles we and the USA made of Afghanistan we have nothing at all to brag or shout about.
With all the so called fire power we had in Afghanistan a tactical force won the day, and no I do not back the murderous Taliban.

Again I see the USA shouting their mouths off stating that the combined Nato forces can outgun Russia. Talk about adding fuel to the fire. They never seem to learn, talk about adding fuel to the fire.
I'm glad you weren't around the govt in 1939 ...
Sandra, what would you say if Putin decided not to stop with Ukraine but to invade another country too .... Finland, for example?
12.08 That's already been made very clear to Putin. Again you and others seem to be getting my point of view, not so clear.

And when a T72 rolls up outside your door with men piling out to shoot your husband and rape you what I wonder would you be saying now.

Claiming the Government have no knowledge of war is ludicrous to the extreme. For better or worse the UK has some of the finest military minds in the world and it will be them advising and leading this along with MI6.
^^ What happened to all the great military minds in Afghanistan then. When the Taliban sent them packing with only pickup trucks with 1 machine gun stuck on the back :) You are still missing my point regarding the bragging being done by us and the USA.
Afghanistan is a totally different ball game, even you must know that. And we actually did ok until Brandon pulled out like that.

And I havnt missed your point. I answered right up the top of this thread. Just because you dont like the answer doesnt mean I havnt given one.
Sandra, it isn't bragging. At the very least it tells Putin that the civilised world isn't sitting back doing nothing - and that it isn't afraid of him. Germany has just said it's sending heavy weaponry into Ukraine. Are they bragging too?
Afghanistan was a war, hows that different. All the experience you claim we have didn't work. We lost!

Again I'll make it clear. Its not about me not wanting to stop Putin. Its the rhetoric coming from the UK and USA that we can well do without.
What reaction would you expect from Putin, when Biden tells him that Nato can outgun him.

My view to that would be that Putin will go out of his way to prove him wrong, and we all know how he will consider doing that.
12.54 Just my point. Don't tell the rat when the stick is coming, but they just can't help themselves. Surprise is everything when fighting a war.
It appears I'm not alone in my thinking. An ex military general was on TV a week or so ago, I can't think of his name, stated also that's there's far to much chit chat going on.

He said half the reason Russia went ahead with the full invasion was because the USA made it clear they would not put boots on the ground. This left Putin with a free hand to go forth and do what he wanted.

He finished saying that whatever you have in mind, you should always leave the enemy in doubt / wondering what will happen if I do this or that.
Sandra, That man was complaining about telling Russia what we WON’T do - no threat there so they’ll do as they please. Letting them know what we COULD and MAY do is a different issue. That makes them stop and think. That dread you have that Putin will do his worst works both ways. It does no harm to let barbarians know they can’t walk all over the civilised world.

Yes, and only Trump seems to know how to talk to the ex-KGB, mafia thug Putin is; either flatter him or threaten him.
