'King Charles will bear the same cross as her late majesty'. Way OTT and rather unpleasant.

Paigntonian - As others have pointed out, without some context, and ideally a link, it's difficult to comment on what Ms Mordaunt said, and how it was actually meant.

If you have a link, I will be delighted to have a look, and offer a view, but without, I can't agree with your polnt as it stands.
There's a large story, feature, in a Portsmouth paper, from 11th September. It includes the line mentioned in the OP. I can't do links, sorry.
Toorak, thanks for that - and it's good to have an actual story now!
I think it relates to Penny Mordaunt’s speech that she gave during the Tory Party Conference, today.
Thanks, Rockyracoon. The speech mentioned in the Portsmouth press is the one made in the House of Commons just after the Queen's death. Maybe today's was similar, made similar points? It would have been good if the OP had provided more than it did.
It's from her tribute to the Queen st the Tory conference to-day.

In context, I see nothing offensive in the remark whatsoever.
I didn't understand the significance of what PM said nor why it was deemed OTT and unpleasant as stated in the OP. But then it was pointed out that it was something to do with Jesus and the cross he had to bear.

TBH, I'm still none the wiser!
