Cryptic 1593

Blimey! I only realised there was a jumbo crossword on Bank Holiday Monday when it was nearly my bedtime. So I only managed to make a modest start. Today the weather has been pretty miserable so I was quite pleased to have a significant diversion. Be careful what you wish for!!! I have finished it but only by assuming that because (a) words fitted and (b) they satisfied at least part of the clue I would use those words…….
My frequent question: did others find this setter’s clues difficult ?

Stevenj, I found 80% of that crossword to be on the easy side, with many answers just needing to be written in. The other 20% were quite problematic at times, and I wrestled with a fair few of them.
