Refurbished Laptops

I am considering investing in a new laptop as opposed to a full PC.
I will be getting advice and help from my tech savvie grandson but would like to hear others point of view regarding refurbished laptops.
Can they be reliable as they are obviously a lot cheaper than brand new.
Is there any brand better than others.
Any thoughts.

I'm using one right now. A company I worked for was refurbing its kit (I did the refurb) and let us have the old ones. I refurbed quite a few for schools. That was a couple of years back now but the ones I have are still going strong.

There were of course professional machines DELL Lattitude i7's and as I was refurbing I was able to max out the RAM.

I think if you go for a refurb then look for the pro machines - they are always built better and tend to be preloaded with Windows pro edition but watch out for batteries at end of life and how they have been refurbished.

The other small problem is Windows 11. Many refurbished machines wont be able to run it - even if they are powerful enough. Check on the lists that MS have provided to see if the one you are interested in will upgrade. If you want ton upgrade of course.

I will look into things a bit more.
I will need to find some company that is in, or delivers to, ROI.
Done a bit of surfing recently and came across refurb Dell computers that had come from some office upgrade but can't remember where now.
Will have another look.

Have never had a problem with refurbished Apple IPads from amazon

I just bought a new iPad cheaper than the exact same spec refurbished model from Apple.
It pays to shop around.

Very. They had reduced the price and offered a further 20% discount if I used their credit to buy it. Of course I will pay it off long before any interest is due.
It doesn't apply to every model. I bought the 9th gen 256GB iPad for £440, same price as Apple refurbished 64GB

Refurbished tech is good. I do not know about laptops but i bought a cheaper refurbished i phone and it is like new. It is best to buy from a good shop to be safe.

There are supposed to be two classes - refurbed and renewed but it gets complicated because not every outlet applies the same criteria. If you buy refurbed goods from the manufacturer such as Apple or Dell it will come with a warranty and you can be sure it is a good product and you would be hard put to distinguish it from new.

You need to be more careful with third party sellers

No it isnt. In fact my laptop from 1994 still fires up. The batteries were 'C' standard batteries!

The one I am using now is nearly 6 years old. Works fine and still has the original battery, although as I have said it is a professional machine, there is another 10 year old XPS upstairs that works great. Using it to train my 2 year old granddaughter.

I've had laptops last for years, too. It used to be simple to replace the battery in them but it has got more fiddly in recent years. If you buy a decent one the frame and hinges should stand up to wear and tear and a SSD will just keep chugging along.
