Does anyone still drink it? I don't know why it just came to mind. When I was a child my mother used to give it to me as a beverage, a cube dissolved in hot water. It was dark brown & salty, I suppose because it was full of protein.

I once knew an elderly lord (r.i.p.) who 'had to have' at 11:00 a.m. daily & precisely, something he called his 'Bullshot'; an OXO cube dissolved in hot water with cognac.

Dagman // I used to take a flask of oxo drink to work and enjoy cheddar cheese rolls with it, bliss. In fact I think I'll do it again ( without the work bit!).//

Enjoy, - maybe you will start a new trend!

I suppose it is a good way of gaining the benefits of beef while keeping some distance between oneself & the actual meat.

Never had it - sounds tasty so I'll give it a try - I do make a drink out of Marmite occasionally.

Sometimes have a cup - soup replacement.

cloverjo - I knew I'd make somebody cringe!

I love Bovril but will be happy to drink Oxo if we  run out. I also used to drink Oxo at the Kingsbury Lido as a kid and loved Oxo flavoured crisps as well.

My mum used to love a cup of oxo during the winter.

Never understood why.

I believe it was in Noel Coward's film In Which we Serve that the officers on the bridge drank Oxo or Bovril laced with Sherry.

I do not drink that but I do buy and still use OXO stock cubes, they are tasty.

Very little protein in Oxo, a huge amount of salt.

I used to drink Bovril

Right, I've tried it now - and yes it is tasty (specially with the extra bits of silver paper because it's so fiddly to unwrap 😀😀😀).

It tasted salty because it had a lot of salt ( NaCl) in it

Am I the only person on here who can't even sip the stuff as the smell makes me gag.  Ghastly stuff, both Oxo and Bovril.  Yuck!
