Whilst channel hopping I stumbled across an old episode of 'Keeping Up Appearances'. Not sure how popular it used to be but I remember watching an episode years ago and thought it was quite funny, but today - I watched it and just couldn't believe that anyone ever watched it! Was just so, well, unfunny lol. Or is it just me??

Anyone feel the same bout any other programmes??

Monty Python makes dire watching now - but The Life of Brian still makes me laugh.  I like most of the old comedies - Only Fools & Horses, Blackadder, and 'Allo 'Allo especially I think quite brilliant.  Superbly clever writers.  Can't stand things like The Royle Family or Mrs Brown's Boys.  Just coarse.

Off the top of my head, the execrable "I'm Alan Partridge".  I couldn't stand "The Royle Family" or "Bread".  "The Office" didn't do much for me.  I used to laugh at "2 Pints of Lager...", but I'm at a loss to know why, having seen a couple recently.

Has anyone mentioned Dick Emery?

I never thought his work was funny.

Benny Hill always made me cringe

I liked Dick Emery's gurgling vicar

Sid James has always been unwatchable for me so never enjoyed Bless this House

Never found any of these remotely amusing;

Last Of The Summer Wine, It Ain't Half Hot Mum, Are You Being Served, Allo Allo, Butterflies, Terry and June, Cheers, Father Ted, Dad's Army. There must be loads more which i can't think of off the top of my head.

The trouble with the comedies listed is that they went on far too long - several years in some cases. Talk about flogging a dead horse - there's a limit to the number of scenarios they could do, Last of the Summer Wine and Dad's Army in particular. They should have been cancelled after one or two seasons.

'Some mothers do have em' and 'On the buses'.

Total garbage IMO.

I agree on The Royle Family. I can't put my finger on why but it just rubbed me the wrong way. Despite the confirmed acting/comedy talent involved, it all seemed so forced.

I'm in the very small minority of people who have never so much as tittered at Seinfeld. Any others?

What's Seinfeld?

//What's Seinfeld?//

Is that where they process nuclear waste?

I hope you are all watching the replays of Citizen Khan   ... Me neither.

"I hope you are all watching the replays of Citizen Khan "

Unfortunately poor Londoners have another four tears of replays.

^^^ A Freudian slip. four years.

Did anyone find Phil Cool funny?  For a few years he was all over the tv, next minute - gone.

Yup, not Cool.

I am not generally a fan of a lot of modern sitcoms, and I have never liked  them where there is a big cringe factor eg The office, Steptoe and son, the Alf Garnett one.

My preference is for OFAH, Yes Minister/Prime Minister, Dave Allen, Porridge, Blackadders .I like to like my old rogues, and clever scripts

I suppose there's something to be said for not sitting through a whole programme you've already seen for a laugh you know is coming but won't ever be as hearty as the first time.
