I'm a single person, female, in her late 30s. I have two weeks leave coming up and would like to go away somewhere. Before I've always stayed in this country but would like to be braver and travel abroad. I'll be going on my own - any tips for companies that cater for single travellers, hotels that don't rip off single people with the single supplement or treat you as a saddo and put you behind a pillar like a leper? (YOu can probably guess I've had problems before).

Your best bet may be to select a destination then view some hotels on a search engine. Hopefully there will be some with reasonable priced single rooms. Booking online would probably give you better options and information. Also, maybe just B&B then you can choose your dining places for dinner/tea.. Hopefully someone will come up with a company that specialises. Single people are not rare dining out and sunbathing in places i've visited, and are not treated as lepers. Hope you find a suitable spot
Have you thought about one of the adventure companies? Exodus or exploreworldwide are good if you are looking for an adventurous holiday. I think something like 50% of their travellers are single, and they will pair you up with another similar traveller to share with, or you can pay a single supplement. Could be worth having a look at.
Should have said also that there is always a good group atnosphere, groups tend to go out to eat together etc, and their holidays are a bit more unusual than laying on a beach, but they are not all climbing Kilimanjaro!
come to canada and visit me, no pillars here, don't know the meaning of the word saddo and the rates are good. cheers eh!

I've been to Malta on my own a couple of times. It's very safe, everyone speaks English, weather is good and i haven't paid any single supplements. i've travelled with Thomson and with Belleair and both were good.
