knoppix/retrieving files
1 Answers
i need to get into my duff computer to retrieve all my files. safe modes and windows xp reinstallations won't work.
someone told me to use knoppix but its difficult to download it on mirror sites and when you can it gives too many options.
i downloaded one ,nearly 800mb. what do i do next to install it on the duff computer, or is there a more simpler way like a live disk, which i dont ubnderstand either?
thanks- i also have rsi and its bloody painful :o(

Download this:

That's an iso file. You'll some software on windows to burn it with (such as Nero). I think it's in the recorder menu, to burn a disc image.
Once the disc image has been burnt (make sure you're burning a disc image, and not just burning that file to the CD), you just put the disc into your CD drive and restart. Knoppix should boot up, and will have an icon on the desktop referring to your hard drive. You can then copy files from this drive to somewhere else, like a flash drive or external hard drive.
