Today, Sept 1st, I saw two kestrels flying with a crow. Then one kestrel attacked the other chasing it to the ground. I lost sight of the crow but believed it to have gone to ground. Why?
Well I regularly see rooks/crows attacking birds of prey because they are protecting their young/rookery etc. However, seeing a kestrel attacking another could indicate the crow was 'lame' and would soon be dinner for one of the kestrels, therefore the one kestrel was beating off the competition?
