Paint Job
How much approximately would it cost to get a car like, say, a VW Golf resprayed from a pale blue to something else, preferably metallic black / grey?? Bit of a daft question, but a ball park figure would do. Plus, I take it I would have to inform the DVLA / my insurers..?

Do you want all the door shuts painted, engine bay or boot interior, trim and glass removed or masked. If the car is available in the colour you want from the factory its cheaper to change the car. depending on the state of the car and how good a job you want this is 2000+. I would need to see it.
Most of the cost is in the prep work, paint itself is cheap and it doesn't take a great deal of time to actually paint the car, but all the masking up, removing bits, putting them back after, doing all the minor body repairs that you'll find need doing, all that takes time, which of course, costs if you are paying someone else.
Generally the labour is the main cost, however some trick paints are very expensive. Known as flips, biomorphics or chromatics they undergo a dramatic colour change depending on the reflection angle. MG recently used this paint on the ZT and ZTT range and some years ago Nissan used it on Micra and Primera. Due to the huge cost of this paint, over 600/litre, these cars can be written of for quite minor panel damage. Its a great looking finish though.
