The explanation of 13 across is that poor sevice is a let. Presumably, by "skied", the compiler means "turn it upside down", which seems odd. "Say" is then "eg" and "nice" is rearranged to "enic"
There were some very odd clues this month - it took me ages to complete the crossword.
