She was able to eat tea and toast not long after coming round and was sent home from hospital the next day. She said she was very sore afterwards, kind of as if she had period pain and there was some discharge for the next couple of weeks
It is now about 3 weeks since the operation, and she is still not ready to go back to work. She is very tired and has been building her strength up slowly.
Take it easy and dont try to do too much too soon, and aim for about 2-4 weeks off work depending on how active your job is!

I had a laparoscopy done a few years ago and, like Chazza's friend, it was carried out under local anaesthetic and I was able to go home the following day. I was very tired afterwards but this was probably due to the anaesthetic. I had two little stitches by my belly button which dissolved after about a week (no scarring now either!). I was a bit sore but was prescribed some good painkillers so I wasn't in too much discomfort and after two weeks I was able to go back to work. If I hadn't had to drive to work and do a fairly physical job, I could probably have gone back before then but the doctors did say to allow two weeks off work. The surgeons carry out many many of these operations every year, so don't worry, they are very experienced at doing them.
You'll probably need more time off than if you had it done under local I had a laparoscopy done under general. I was really sore for quite a while and the anasethic made me feel quite rough (that could just be me though I'm not good with anaesthetics, I have to have a special one at the dentists cos I'm allergic to the normal one!) and off work for about a week.
Hope it goes ok :O)

i had a hysteroscopy only, last thursday, including a camera exam, scrape and insertion of mirena coil (for v heavy periods associated with menopause)., had no anaesthetic at all, not even local!. wasnt as bad as i expected, but a couple of very uncomfy moments. felt ok afterwards at first, but after acouple of hours started with awful period like pains/stomach cramps, got to the stage where i couldnt even get out of bed to the loo without hubbys help even though i was dosed up with pain killers., this continued for about 12 hours then started to ease off. im now just feel tender in the pelvic region, tried to drive today, but cant cos of humps!! so am having a couple of weeks off work and taking it v easy . At my initial outpatient appt i was given a leaflet which said if i had it done at lunchtime, i could go back to work in the afternoon!!! NO WAY.
hi to everyone who replied. im back at work today after having a week off. coulda probably come back a couple of days ago, but was signed off for a week, so a week i had! still got period type pains, sometimes quite intense, and my stitches are driving me insane, itchy. but all in all i think i pretty much breezed through my first ever op. to all of you who have had similar - hope you feel fully recovered very soon. x x x
Can I just point out that a local anasthetic numbs the area that you are going to have fiddled about with; it doesn't knock you out, dentists give you novocaine as a local anasthetic before giving you a filling or removing teeth. A general anasthetic is what you all seem to have had and is when you get knocked out.
