We are planning on visiting Florida for the New Year, can you tell us what the weather is likely to be like at that time?

High season (so expensive) for Florida and Caribbean is from Christmas to Easter because weather is at its best; sunny, fairly warm and relatively low humidity (that is important). Most of Florida is below latitude 30 deg. north, which puts it into the sub-tropical zone.
However, I believe there is quite a large difference between the 'tip' of Florida (Miami, Everglades) and the 'panhandle' (round near Jacksonville), where it is possible for outbreaks of cold weather from the north to penetrate as far as the Gulf coast. At New Year, the further south the better

I am from Florida and December, January and February are our so-called winter months. Sometimes it can get chilly enough to have to wear a heavy coat during those months. But then again, 2 years ago my children were outside in shorts and tanktops on Christmas Day.
March through May are the Spring/Summer months - probably the best time to travel to Florida. It's also the dry months so there are a lot of forest fires.
June through August are the rainy months. It rains like clockwork around the same time everyday but it doesn't last long and then just as fast as it came, it goes away like it never happened.
September through November, the weather is still pretty summer-like. My kids can actually go swimming anytime from March through October.
