best rate of exchange

Hi ..ive already asked this question but got some confusing replies...im off to sunny spain in 3 weeks, we generally gt euros before leaving, but noticed a far better rate of exchange while in spain...so my quesion is ..do i take pounds sterling with me , travellers cheque or is it still best to exchane before i go?....no credit cards will be taken!!!!!! ( or debit cards )..also if anyone knows what is the rate of commision over there, thanks in advance.

well, if you know of a place in Spain that gives better exchange rates, go there! Commission rates vary from one bureau de change to another, so you'll just have to ask, but they often use bad commission rates to make up for good exchange rates. Personally I'd always take a few travellers' cheques or a credit card as well just in case anything happens to my money.

If you're not taking debit or credit cards then I would recommend that you take travellers cheques as if these are lost or stolen you will be able to get new ones. If your cash is lost or stolen and you don't have cards to get any more money then you are stuffed!

Yes with cash it is better to change it over there but not in the Hotels. The best card to take is a Nationwide Visa Debit card as they do not charge any commision or fees to withdraw

Quite franky I am astounded that anyone would consider travelling abroad without a credit card. Even if you only keep it for emergencies - and there are so many possibilities. For example, what if you are taken ill or have an accident, and need to pay for medical treatment or medicine? It is possible that your insurance company will expect you to pay, and then claim the money back from them. If your cash or cheques are stolen, you may need to get emergency cash. And it is also the cheapest way to pay for things while you are there. Do reconsider before you go.
