The passport needs to be valid for 3 months beyond the stay.

The passport just need to be valid for EU countries, which is what southern Cyprus is. Northern Cyprus is part of Turkey which has different rules.

The EU does not allow member countries to stipulate validity periods on EU visitors passports/id cards.

And that website pauln90 links to is not the Cyprus Embassy web site but a commercial site masquerading as such. I'd distrust it.

As Dzug states, 'embassyhomepage.com' is a commercial site, which is notorious for its inaccuracies.

The European Union officially recognises the whole of Cyprus as part of the EU but, for all practical purposes, Northern Cyprus should be regarded as separate.

However, most tourism is to Southern Cyprus, so normal EU rules regarding passports apply. i.e. under EU law, any member state must admit any EU citizen who can provide valid documentary proof of citizenship. Assuming that you hold a UK (or other EU) passport, you could arrive in Cyprus at one minute to midnight on the very last day of your passport's validity. The immigration authorities would have to admit you. EU law gives them no choice.
