Last Sunday I ordered a kids bike from the power tool company online. Paid for it with my debit card. I have tried to send emails to find out about delivery, but keep getting message from postmaster, unknown user. Have tried ringing but phone number is wrong. I have come to conclusion this is dodgy website, and am concerned that my card details can be used by person. I was sent an email with order receipt and their VAT number. Any one can help me try and sort this out, much appreciated. Jane

I'm less confident than RoaldoM about this website. It's a criminal offence, under UK law, to trade on the internet without providing a postal address and I can't find one anywhere on that site.

The domain name is registered to
Alex Russell
18 Mansfield Road
Daybrook Square
Nottingham
NG5 6AA
but there's no phone number listed on BT.com.

The website doesn't state that the firm is a limited company but it might be worth checking the Companies House website to see if any details are listed. (I can't do it at the moment as the service is only available 0700-2400, Mon-Sat):
http://wck2.companieshouse.gov.uk/

The HMRC Advice Line can confirm whether the VAT number is valid. (I'm not sure whether they'll give you an address for the company but it's worth a try):
0845 010 9000
(0800-2000, Mon-Fri)

I recommend having a word with your local Trading Standards department. You can locate them by entering your postcode here:
http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/

Chris
Thanks for warning us. The sales email address is not valid either. I'd stay well clear . I suggest you report them to Trading Standards straight away -and if you paid by credit card ring the card company as they may have to reimburse you if you've been defrauded

Thanks very much to you all for information, I will be ringing relevant people first thing in the morning. Many thanks again, Jane

Chris, thanks for your advice, rang HMRC ,the address does not match the VAT number, so all is a bit dodgy I think. Cancelled my bank card. Going to ring trading standards to report it. Thanks , Jane. Please no-one buy from this website
So soory to read of your plight. I ordered some Nintendo DS games off a website last month for my son's Christmas present. Never arrived. Turned out to be internet crooks in Thailand. It's such a convincing website as well. Luckily I paid via Paypal (online secure payment system) and they reclaimed my 65 for me.

I would never use my debit card on the internet. There is no comeback. As has been said previously if you're going to purchse something use a credit card as your purchase is automatically insured...or use Paypal. Best wishes.
