Can anyone tell me why I have sudden pain in the base of my forefoot, not the ball of my foot, but next door, swollen area, very painful, underneath at the base of the 2nd/3rd toes, only on one foot, the area is raised and very swollen - I cant find anything pertaining to this other than metatarsal pain..I have been walking alot though...

could be gout, which I get occasionally. It can happen without warning. It affects the joints, so the base of toes is a popular site. Blood tests should help diagnose it.

There are also other possible ailments - my feet have also had plantar fasciitis, tendonitis (doesn't sound like that) and a ganglion. Best thing is to let your GP investigate.
This could also be something called Morton's Neuroma. Google it to see if it fits the bill.

I've had a touch of it myself on and off for a good few years, but there are special sleeves available that fit over the foot that give great relief.
Mortons neuroma typically occurs between the 3rd & 4th metatarsal as the nerve sheath that runs between it is 'pinched'. What you're describing is more likely associated with the head of the second met' which sits slightly lower than the other four. As such it is commonly affected by extended bouts of walking/exercise. In extreme cases you can develop Freiburgs syndrome, or 'march fracture' - so called due to a large number of soldiers experiencing such problems following drill practice. Either way, rest is all that is needed with perhaps some padding, for a week or so. If the problem persists, seek a GP referral for X-ray to confirm whether there is indeed a small fracture. REST & ELEVATE.
GP's and feet don't mix. See a Chiropodist/Podiatrist like my friend Morello. You will however need your GP for some referrals if neccessary.
You'll certainly know if it's gout. I suffer from that and you can't even stand on your foot when it comes.
I have similar problem, i seen an orthapaedist the other week and whilst she was examining me i told her about my foot (i know she isn't a chiropodist) .....she said to go to chemist and get some padding, i buy it in a sheet and it is sticky on one side, i just cut off a strip and stick it on my foot just below where the pain is so the cushion takes all the pressure when walking and not the painful area.

ight not cure the pain but definitely reduces it.
squarebear, gout comes in different intensities, at least for me.
you got gout
lay orf the red wine lmao
red wine and steak and all the usual suspects don't really cause gout. Sardines and spinach may be implicated, though.

Trouble is I hardly eat any of those and it still gets me
jno - Have you tried Indomethacin? It works miracles for my gout. One of these pills and the pain is gone within a couple of hours. Ask your doc.
I'd put money on it not being gout.
I did try it, squarebear... a year later I suddenly realised that a series of blinding headaches I'd had invariably followed a course of indomethacin. So I had to stop - the headaches were worse than the gout, believe it or not, totally incapacitating. I now take allopurinol every day and touch wood the gout at least hasn't troubled me a while.

As Morello says, it may be something quite different. Take it to a doctor.

Well, my foot is no better and went to doc's friday afternoon, he told me it was a 'deep' blister ! and sent me away....Im not convinced.....its way too painful, very deep seated pain....
A deep blister? Yeah, OK... make an appointment at your local health centre to see a Podiatrist. GP's haven't a clue about feet.
