I have used this system for some considerable time, and last week received an update. As a result I cannot receive any internet updates now. I have tried resetting PC and still I am getting ertror message - Is it something to do with Windows or am I having a blonde moment.

You should do a system restore, this will allow you to return your system to a previous state. By choosing a restore point before your update you will undo any harmful changes.In windows XP click start, control panel, performance and maintenance, then under"see also" click system restore. You will then see instructions on what to do. Good luck.
