I am pleased that retired Gurkhas now have the right to live in the UK. They have served in the British Army for many years and its about time this country showed its respect for them.

S.K.Sweden. You do make me laugh, and with your superb and very commendable command of the English language, I'm sure you will understand the meaning of the word 'Twit!'! :o)

Pickle, have you been hanging around the barracks looking at soldiers again??!
Couldnt agree more tiggerblue brilliant news. And well done joanna Lumley.
I've always admired the Gurkhas (& Joanna Lumley, but not just because of this cause).

So I totally agree with you tigger. -x-
Gromit.

. . . and they should stay in their own country . . .

Sorry you feel that way. Thankfully the Gurkhas did not think the same as you when they helped our many causes.
*whoosh!*
I used to work in M&S in ALdershot where they used to be stationed. I never met a Gurkha who was rude or inpolite in any way. They deserve to be allowed to live here because they served us well in times of need when they really didn't have to.
After all would any one on these pages give their lives in service of a country thousands of miles from you own home?
Glad you got it Quinlad.
Gromit, in a way you are correct we dont.

However we owe a debt of gratitude to these people so there must be an exception. It will of course have to be setup correctly to avoid shed loads of free loading relatives piling over. Providing that is done then no problem.

I would dispute that Town Halls would have to put up another language. These people worked with the British and I think you will find they have a fair command of the local lingo here. Mor than you can say for the countless number of free loaders already here.

A suggestion, why dont we turf out the scum who have come here univited or abuse our hospitality then there will be plenty of room for these few.
Naomi, thank you for your kind words. I was taught English from an early age, much like Ulrika Jonsson. I have not heard of the word "twit" before, but coming from you, I am sure it will be a compliment.
I couldn't write much yesterday, had a match to play in, but yes jno, that news did make me very happy.

I have a Gurkha friend who works at the Union Jack Club at Waterloo, he was in Aden at the same time as me, although we'd never met at that time, and in the Far East, I won't relate the story, but two of them, from 10th. actually offered to kill someone for me, I declined the offer.

As for being a burden on the NHS, the NHS should be proud to attend them, and as for the cost, I said on a previous post. get rid of the Illegal and Terrorists, then the money saved, could be spent on the Gurkhas, hopefully, without anyone complaining.
S.K.Sweden, I am in no doubt whatsoever that you were taught English from a very early age. :o)

Lonnie, the cost to the NHS isn't an issue as far as I'm concerned. We owe these men more than we can ever repay. This country's treatment of them has been shameful.
100% naomi,
I only put that in because it was menioned in an earlier answer..
Excellent news.

I see not everyone appreciates your wit Gromit ;o)

I'm not sure if there's massively sophisticated double-irony going on from some posters here, or if they're just sensationally poor at spotting tongues-in-cheeks.
I'm sure that Gromit will agree there is more than enough home-grown knife-crime without all these damned foreigners entering the country, flashing their kukris at the slightest excuse.....
