Hi, i've just got my first DVD recorder and I'm a bit confused about disc types and finalizing. The manual is very confusing. The way i understand it, with a DVD-R or DVD+R you can record but not erase. You can add to the disc but once it is finalized thats it forever. Is that right? With DVD-RW or DVD+RW you can record and erase. But here's my question, Do I still have to finalize the disc to play it on a different player? If I finalize it can i still erase it and re-record later. Can i erase one title from the disc and leave others? Please could someone explain it all in really simple language as I'm pushing 43 and there's not a 5year old around here to explain it to me. Thanks

First read this guide to DVD types

Basically what you have said is correct but read the manual first to determine what type of blank media your recorder accepts.

DVD-RW need to be finalised before use in other players but DVD+R are formatted automatically on your first use and then do not need finaalising before using in other players.
