if they are out of a tin you can put them in just before you serve. if they are freshly soaked you need to cook for at least 45mins and they need to be soaked for at least 8 hours
If they are canned just rinse them and
put them in ...dried beans have to be soaked
overnight ..used the canned ones ..a lot
easier...enjoy ...

thanks for your help
After soaking, they need to be boiled rapidly for 10 minutes to remove the toxins. Then you can carry on and simmer them until cooked.
If they are tinned, this has already been done for you - but make sure you rinse them thoroughly before adding to your chilli.
When reheating, make sure you heta to very hot (at least 70 degrees) for at least two minutes. x
As crisgal says is is essential to rapidly boil dried red kidneys for at least 10 minutes otherwise you will make yourself ill.

You should soak them overnight. Rinse and drain. Put in fresh water. Boil rapidly for at least 10 minutes. Then simmer until soft

Tinned kidney beans are a much easier option
A good alternative is to forget all about revolting kidney beans. I hate them, all mealy and horrible. Instead, just add a can of baked beans.
