I remember the question

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Quizzes-and-Puz zles/Question695779.html

but did they explain why? I bet they didn't.
Really?

How very strange.
this may explain -

http://machaut.uchicago.edu/cgi-bin/WEBSTER.sh ?WORD=gorse

Gorse bird (Zol.), the European linnet; -- called also gorse hatcher. [Prov. Eng.] -- Gorse chat (Zol.), the winchat. -- Gorse duck, the corncrake; -- called also grass drake, land drake, and corn drake
That's a bit like saying that another name for a grass snake is a grass. Glad I don't do this puzzle.
