Mammogram

I have just turned 50 and I cannot complain.I have been offered bowel screening twice -just cos I have a thing about providing but I am going to do it
I now have a mammogram on Thursday and for no reason at all am kacking it.Ive heard its sore but I can do pain and uncomfortable but the results -yikes -Its like when you get a smear -think you dont bother until iyou (well me) gets the all clear.
I am so scared but obviously so grateful my Health Board (Tayside- have this in place automatically.)
So would you be scared and does your Health Board do this as a matter of course?
BTW -does it hurt?

dris, i've had loads of mammograms due to recurrent breast cysts, the last one being last year, and have never, ever been told not to use deodorant. just follow what it says in the information you've been given. you'll be fine.

I am 52 and have never been invited.Is there a postcode lottery or what?
Didn't the needle biopsy hurt mamy?

it's a 3 year rolling programme so you should be invited to have one once you turn 50 but before you're 53, and it applies to all uk women up to the age of 70. if you get to 53 and haven't been called, ask your surgery why not, or alternatively ring them now and ask when their turn is.
a needle biopsy is a little uncomfortable but i certainly wouldn't say it's painful.

The needle biopsy was a little more uncomfy than the mammogram but they do numb the area. The next step was to be a Mammotome but after a second mammogram the dots (microcalcifications) had gone !! seems they can disperse and are not always harmful.
I am slightly overdue a retest as my husband was terminally ill when they sent my appointment last year, must get in touch.

Hi Everyone

Well had my mammogram yesterday -thankfully I knew the nurse so i wasnt at all nervous.It was a dawdle -I have to say however I do feel a couple of tender bits this morning but really just akin to a good sesh with ............well i'll leave you to decide lol

Now the nervous wait -aarrgghh !!!!

I asked about the 50 age as someone had raised it and I am assured (as far as they aware) that that each Health Board contact over 50's as a matter of course so its not a postcode lottery -so I would get in touch with your local surgery if you havent been picked up and simply ask for one.
