Please can someone explain the answer for 9A - Match gold leaving hot-line fifth-rate? I have the answer but don't know why. Thank you.

Equator is a hot line. Remove gold, Or, I think, and then add a 5th rate grade, which would be E. That gives you 'Equate'.
That's my way of working it out.
