Oops there goes another plane. I know, and was thoroughly convinced by all your statistical arguments on a previous posting.... the safest way to travel. That should be a great comfort to the families of the deceased (if not dead alongside them)?.

In fact, here in the U.S., the governing body for all aviation is the Federal Aviation Administration, (FAA) and its historical predecessor was the CAA (Civil Aeronautics Authority). Ironically, it is one of the only governmental oversight bodies that was created back in the 1930's at the request of the aviation "community".
The emerging airline industry believed (correctly) that the public would never place any trust in the system if it didn't have the imprimatur of the Government. Most other countries used the original CAA and later the FAA as a pattern to assure aviation safety...

fare cutting to the extent that it is cheaper if you are that desperate to fly thousands of miles to get a cheap beer than it is to get on a bus to a local pub.
It is very clear that you do not fly regularly. Fares rose steeply in 2008 as fuel prices increased. As the price of fuel has gone down this year, fares have continued to increase.
