Blimey, just read the comments, I thought I was reading the Daily Mail, instead of The Guardian.
Doesn't anyone like him?

Took us into two wars
Failled to abolish House of Lords
Privatisation of NHS through PFI
Just to name a few.
Can't see him becoming European President, as his cosying up to Bush alienated many of our European partners. He is not particularly well like in Europe.

you weren't reading the Guardian, you were reading a blog on the Guardian website; these attract a great deal of vituperative comments from across the political spectrum, and from across the world. But no, since you ask, the left doesn't like him. Why should they? He was Thatcher-lite and his record was poor - compare his determination to go to war as often as possible with his dithering over fox-hunting.
so we're doomed to tyranny!
So how is the president going to be elected then? Presumably all the countrys will put up a candidate and all the people in that ountry will vote for their guy and wallop, the country with the largest population wins! I think that's Germany! so finally they finish Hitler's work!

There are not many major powers on this planet. You can take the US, China, Russia and now the EU. If you believe in a multi-polar world don't elect Blair because he believes all countries should be subserviant to the US. Like Iraq he will use his influence as EU president to always obey dictats from the White House. The EU will just become an addition to US foreign policy.
