What is the name of the song with these lyrics ' and the bells are ringing out for christmas day '. I think it was sung by someone sounding like Bono from U2 and somebody else ?

I think it was The Pogues and Kirsty McColl.
Probably 'Fairytale Of New York', by the above, my all time favourite Christmas song. It is also used on the Christmas doritos advert.
It is 100% "Fairytale of New York" (god, I'm sick of singing it) which got to No2 in December '87. If you like the well known one by Kirsty & Shane McGowan then try to get Christy Moore's live version which is far better.
I think U2 might be a bit miffed about being compared to the Pogues!
And vice versa.
