potty training

My daughter is 22months of age. She does not want to sit on her potty chair.How do I potty train her?

just perservere, my little one wouldnt go near a potty or toilet until 30 months and then one day she just picked it up, sat on it and used it and never wore a nappy again, never even an accident! she was using toilets 2 months later and potty was gone!

My advice is to try to encourage her by telling her what its for and asking her constantly ever 10 -20 mins if she needs to use it,

may not be the answer u need but dont rush her as she will do it in her own time! start to worry when she is getting close to 3 years old and seek advice from a health visitor or gp

There's a really good book called 'I Want my Potty!' I can't remember who it's by, but it kind of subliminally tells the kid they really do want to use it. I know it sounds bad, but it's not like it's telling them to kill someone or anything weird like that. It's a really fun book, and if you back that up with praise and encouragement when she does the deed - and patience when she doesn't - it will all work out.

 

At the end of the day, have you ever in real-life seen a 5 year old still in nappies simply because he/she refused to use a potty? When they get the idea of why they want to do it for themselves, they'll use it, and that's the start of growing up. Once they get to that stage, it all happens way too quickly for us parents!

 

Don't fret, they're all different and you will get there in the end, promise.

one suggestion my mum told me was to make it a game, i didnt get to practice this cos my child is disabled, but make it enjoyable (!) and it should start to become 2nd nature, mum said it worked with me so well that i then painted my barbie doll in poo!

I agree totally with twiglet4frog.
Potty training is not the best term really, as most babies / toddlers will soon learn how to use a potty when they are ready.
How many 20 yr olds do you know who wear a nappy?

My daughter is 26  months old and she won't entertain using her potty yet.  We keep it in view and talk about it - eventually she will want to use it.

I don't see the point of struggling for months with a child who is not ready to use the potty, if we wait until she is ready I know from experience that it will take a much shorter time and be much less stressful : )

My two elder daughters were aged between 2 1/2 and 3 when they were using the potty.

Spooky that you posted on here about this as I came on here just to post about exactly the same thing as my dd is 31 months and though she wee'd on the loo twice on Friday (won't use the potty at all) we've had more accidents than anything.

I think you have to expect lots and lots of accidents though, stay calm and tell her accidents don't matter and that next time she can try doing it on the potty or toilet. Get a reward chart if need be so she can have a sticker every time she does a wee or poo on the potty/loo. She needs to learn what the sensation of needing a wee is before she will know that she needs to sit on the potty to avoid getting wet!!

I am finding it incredibly frustating and my husband put her in a nappy on Saturday whilst I was at work much to my annoyance but the only way forward is to stick at it.

I shall now read the other replies with interest!

Don't. Don't train her. Leave her be. She'll work it out. How many five years olds do you see using a potty?

give her time. my son is 2 1/2 and is not fully potty trained. don't force anything on her. when she's ready you'll know!

We gave our daughter a doll that could "wee" and had a little potty, she soon caught on and pretty much potty trained herself.

one of my daughters wouldn't use a potty. I don't know if you can still get them, but I bought a small portable loo seat especially made for children, that sits on top of an ordinary loo seat .She was so delighted that she could use the grown up toilet like her sister and Mummy that it was sorted out straight away.

MUSICJAN - you are quite right - I got mine from Asda - I think it costs 1.03 - something ridiculous like that - but you can get all sorts, padded ones and everything!

My daughter (31 months) much prefers using the toilet (with her special "big girl" seat on it) like her mummy does cause she feels so grown up.
