Car Oil Change
Hi All
Want some advice please, I have a diesel 1.9 Passat 2002, and have it oil changed every 6 months/5000 miles. I am really worried as I have not managed to get it done this year and its been 7 months and 5500 miles driven, I am now booking it in for next Saturday but I have another 500 miles to drive so by then I would have done 6000 miles and its been 7 months. Is this Ok/Safe or am I risking damage?
I know some people only do their oil change once every 12 months, just wanted to know if I am safe with what I am doing, I do about 12k per year so service it 12 months and oil change it 6 months.
Also when I have the oil change next Saturday I am due to drive to Manchester on the monday, is it OK to drive a long distance straight after an oil change and anything to keep an eye on
Sorry if they are stupid questions but very naive when it comes to cars...
Many thanks
Steve

Had to smile at that,
My wife has a diesel rover 45, which she drives for the east midlands ambulance voluntary car service,
She very often does 1,000 miles per week,
I always said i would give it a full service every six weeks,
But being the lazy bugga that I am, it has very often been 3 months before i have gotten round to it, ( 12,000 ) miles, Now I'm not saying this is a good thing, but it is still going strong after three years of this sort of treatment,
The one thing i will do for sure is change the cambelt at regular intervals.
So i wouldn't worry about a few hundred miles, Or even a couple of thousand for oil change.
