My sister just got a new Sony TV with Freeview - I am on one side of town but she just after ringing me on how to turn on subtitles when in Freeview. I know instructions are in book but she is making me laugh in saying the instructions are like when you give a person GCSEs exams. I know it will be really easy but need answers before I go over.

In my freeview if you go to...Menue,,,,,Settings.....Features....you can switch subtitles on and off and choose which language you get subtitles in.
sorry it's Menu....Set Up Options.....Features

sorry to go on about this when I haven't looked at the thing but on my Sky I have a button which can switch subtitles on and off with each programme. So can a button switch off subtitles without going into the lengthy features, menu, set up blah blah.
just told you a load of rubbish Connemmara and have found a subtitle button on the remote (which I never knew was there) have just tried out and it works.....
sorry my other tv its under menu options but that's the older one, i'm pretty sure if its new it would have a subtitle button on the remote. do you have a model number?

Just in from the sister's - unbelievable the instructions in manual - rubbishing on about subtitles but does not tell you from the beginning how to get subtitling. I am pretty good at reading instructions - however through trial and error got the subtitles up - it is Sony make

so it goes

tools
scroll down to subtitling
select (confirm)

the subtitles read

subtiles - off
subtitles - basic
subtitles - hard of hearing.

I selected hard of hearing but this gives you subtitles all the time which for me (I am deaf) is fine but my sister only wants the subtitles now and again so surely you dont have to go into the above to get off and on subtitles. Anybody know how to get them off and on.

Also everytime you change channels you get a banner on top telling you what the programme is. I am sure you can take this banner off. This sister of mine wants to know the ins and outs of her new TV - she has it one day - she will learn eventually. She is over 60 so it is hard to get acquired with digital elements. Thanks
