Need a book title!

A few years ago I found a book at work that had been left behind by a customer. It was about a heroin addict. It told of his life and addiction in London and surrounding areas. A true story.

The bit that sticks in my mind is him being in an empty flat with a dog. The dog died and I think he ate the dogs faeces???

He also became part of an underground mafia type gang.

He made good in the end, married and went to live in France I believe. Anyone know the title/author?
