and of course it would all be pro-allied, how would they have got to hear anything else at the time and remember those who win a war write the history books about it.

American correspondents were based in the UK and also accompanied the Allied forces, so their reports would naturally be based on information given out by the Allies.

Probably from newsreels in the cinemas, they had TV in the US but the cinema was the biggest public information tool the US Givernment made use of.

Depends on why you are asking the question - out of interest or is this "homework"and assumes we're talking about WWII? It's just that it may be worth remembering that for a couple of years America wasn't one of the Allies i.e between1939 and December 1941. For a part of that period the US Ambassador to the UK was Joe Kennedy who had a pretty poor opinion of Britain's capabilities and prospects. For a lot of the war CBS and particularly Ed Morrow provided the US with a "pro" view.

British propaganda newsreels were also shown every week in our cinemas and were the only way many or most people back home were able to get a visual idea of what was happening in Europe and The Far East.
