My first reaction to your question, McMouse, is Why? But then, why does anyone get an honorary title? After all, they all get paid (quite handsomely, in some cases) for what they've been doing, so why a peerage for anyone?

Unfortunately, there are too many undeserving people being given these pumped up titles.

They should save them for 'really' honest, hardworking, brave, deserving people.

I rather liked Prescott. He seems to have been the last of a dying breed, working class politicians. All uni and law degrees now.

The question and others might be missing the obvious.

Peerages aren't just awards to the deserving.
The House of Lords is a political institution and has an important role in shaping and passing legislation.

So it is a natural stage in many politicos careers and there is an agreement between the main parties to ensure balanced population of peers from each.
