My PC has slowed to a standstill. I suspect the registry has become bloated or corrupted. I can't access the internet to download a registry cleaner and I'm a bit suspicious about those ones anyway! Can anyone reccommend a good registry clean up program which will run even though the PC is virtually at a standstill?
Hi try this.......Right click on your internet explorer icon on your desktop........Click on Properties on the drop down menu.....In the Browsing History section Click on DELETE.........On this screen on the password section click on DELETE ALL.......On the small window that appears check the box and click YES......This will now clear a hell of a lot unwanted bits of files.......Try now to go to goole on the internet and search for a free reg clean program and use.....Hope this helps
seriously the registry is a complicated looking database when you see it in regedit .... but windows knows pretty much exactly where to look for the info it needs ... and will ignore the bits it doesn't
there are 5 or 6 "hives" (depending on your version)
so any search is only done on 1/5 of the database and actually it's far less than that (most progs have their own key ... so the bit windows actually look in is tiny
also ... think how many progs there are ... and the combinations of who uses what progs
how could a registry editor possibly know what is right or wrong?
(look in device manager at your USB key - then pull it out ... the entry "vanishes" ... so if you verify what's there against what can be seen on your machine bad things are likely to happen.
