Deer keep getting in our garden and vandalising it. I can't work out how they're getting in. 6ft high very prickly thick hedge all down one side and a 7ft fence at the bottom. High fence between us and next door. we have blocked all possible gaps at the sides of gates etc and still they're getting in!They're so greedy too, eating all the flowers. they don't seem to like anything with a very strong smell though so at the moment the geraniums are safe! any ideas?

How high are your gates?
Getting through a 6' high prickly hedge wouldn't cause much of a problem though, if there is no fence alongside it.
They`re devils, they`ll get in anywhere - ask any farmer!
Buy a shotgun and start eating venison
venison ??? noooooooooooooooooo you cant eat bambi !!!!
Prickly hedges do not deter deer.

we have high gates, 6-7ft high. there is a smallish fence sort of inside the hedge, but it is very dense, and prickly!! I like the idea of the venison but couldn't kill them or deal with them once dead!!!
Grange, dense prickles that deter humans quite honestly won't deter deer - they just barge through and a smallish fence is no obstacle. Have you inspected the hedge closely, you might just find areas where they have pushed through. I have actually seen a deer go through a dense prickly hedge. I couldn't kill one either, by the way.
You should try having kangaroos. We have about twenty in our garden. Rose buds is one of their favourites.
They jump between the wires of a fence without slowing down like it isn't there.
sookie in tru blood
oops wrong thread :-)

good gracious beso, where do you live? I think I'd die if a kangaroo jumped in to my garden--------maybe deer aren't so bad after all!!!
Beso obviously lives in Birmingham! ;o)
I'd recommend this repellent:

I tried it to keep away foxes from my garden but it should work for deer too, at least that's what the instructions in mine say. I found it worked perfectly well and cost less than a fiver so was definitely worth it.

Good luck!

Thanks for that! We'll certainly give it a try!
My sister used to live in Minneapolis where deer where everywhere and nobody had garden fences so they were able to wander anywhere - I don't have any suggestions on how to stop them getting in But people, to stop them eating their plants, used to spray their gardens with a mixture of raw egg (which goes off) and washing up liquid - apparently the deer hate it...
We have Deer wandering through in the winter (amongst other wildlife) and my wife has planted bulbs in the flowerbeds which deters them. We also put out wheatsheafs for them to forage and also leave the redcurrants on the bushes for them . We all seem to rub along well.
