Fairly straightforward debut by Ragtag this week. The basics of the theme we have seen in a listener a couple of years back as well as in the EV. I was wondering what the clashes had to do with it, but it's all confirmed in Chambers. I am surprised this aspect of the puzzle has not come up before.

Z, I believe he spelled it "Nihcolas"
Must learn to read the preamble properly. I'd done 90%+ of this before I realised that there were extra letters!

My problem is that I have 8 clashes, one of which must be wrong. I'm guessing it's in the handle. I have 3 clashes in 28A, but all the down answers look correct to me. Argh!
An earlier answer stated that there were 2 clashes in 28A, which I have. My grid is complete, but it leaves me with a very dodgy looking answer, and one symbol short, which presumably falls here. Is there an abbreviation lurking here somewhere? Otherwise at least one quite sensible-looking answer must be less sensible than it looks...
Came to this late, having been on holiday and missed a few weeks. Disturbingly easy to start but then toiled a bit, although we have now finished it. 11 across was the key that unlocked it for us, since we had an answer which was clearly right but the cross checking letters suggested a fundamental problem with the grid entry.
There are indeed only 2 clashes in 28 Deviant - which do you have ?

Which is your dodgy looking answer hypotheses ?
Mysterons- on holiday in France now. Can't remember for sure but I think it was MDSC with the C being the symbol.
Was it 23 down?:
